Rice is nice.

Carbohydrates can play an important role in our health and rice is an excellent source.

However, there are differences between brown and white rice that we should be aware of in order to make healthier choices.

Brown rice is considered a "whole grain" while white rice is not.

This is because in brown rice the complete structure of the grain is left intact, while nutritious portions of the grain are removed in white rice.

For example, brown rice contains more fiber which is a very important nutrient that many people do not get enough of.

Fiber slows down digestion, helps the gut extract vital nutrients from food, feeds healthy gut bacteria, and aids in weight-loss.

Brown rice also contains antioxidants which protect our cells, DNA, and enhance the immune system.

Although we believe white rice is fine to have on occasion, if given the choice, we always recommend brown!
